~About Pam Overmier~

Winter wonderland Nov 2006

I have been sewing animals since I was a girl. I started by using felt, making Christmas ornaments. I made my first polar bear, who had on ice skates and a stringer of fish, when I was in grade school. I have since gone on to use mohair, the traditional fabric used by early bear makers. I enjoy dying and distressing fabrics, and giving my bears and creatures special touches by using vintage things, such as bits of lace, discarded photographs, tiny things a child rescues from walkways!

I am honored to have my bears and folk art in the collection of world famous bear artists Christy Firmage & Deb Canham, The Teddy Bear Museum of Japan, and many collectors. My bears have been featured in the Teddy Bears of Witney Catalog, Teddy Bear Times(UK), Teddy Bear Review (USA), Teddy Bear and Friends (USA), as well as a children's book by author Karen Schuler "The Backyard Bears Present the Story of Christmas". I owe many thanks to these folks for
their support, and to the collectors who adopt my bear children.

All Creatures Great and Small.
I love them all! My passion other than teddy bears is horses. I ride my best friend Air D' Go almost everyday. He is my dressage teacher. It feels like flying, his canter. It is a wonderful break from sewing, which tends to keep one in a comfy chair for extended periods of time.

water garden
I also tend a water garden which my husband and I care for together ( My husband calls it his nemesis!). We have a daughter, 2 dogs, 3 cats, a snake and a coop of chickens. I also feed the wild birds that frequent our farm, named Kingfisher Farm after our frequent guest. I can't imagine not looking out the window each morning and not seeing a warbler or cardinal bathing in our waterfall. It was hard work to make it!

baby barn swallows A little known fact. Baby barn swallows learn to ride a tricycle before they try their wings! They were raised on my porch, and I got to watch them as the nest was above my studio window.

red dog

Red enjoys a cuddle with my daughter Leah. When we found Red, he was a year old, being kept tied to a dumpster! He was not being cared for, except by caring neighbors that intervened on his behalf. Rescue a dog, save a life!
